Aedes larvae found in 45pc houses in DSCC Zone-1: Mayor

Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 45 per cent houses of Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Segun Bagicha and ministers' residential area on Minto Road and Hair Road under Zone-1 of the corporation, said Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon on Saturday.

However, the presence of Aedes larvae is very small in other Zones of the DSCC, the mayor said while inaugurating a program titled 'Aedes mosquito larvae detection and destruction' in the Kantalbagan Dhal (slope) area, reports UNB.

The DSCC has taken the initiative in a bid to fight the spread of different diseases transmitted through mosquito.

Addressing the programme, the DSCC mayor said the DSCC employees have destroyed mosquito larvae breeding ground visiting houses in every ward under the programme from 25 June onwards.

A total of 19542 houses were covered under the programme, he added.

"We have taken the programme again by giving importance to the larvae prone areas including Dhanmondi, Kalabagan,Montriparaand Segunbagicha as Aedes mosquito larvae were found in one of three houses in the areas," said the mayor.

The DSCC Mayor also called upon other city corporations, municipalities and the union parishads around the capital to carry out same programmes simultaneously to destroy Aedes mosquito larvae.

The program was attended, among others, by the chief executive officer of the DSCC Khan Mohammad Bilal, its secretary Md Shahabuddin Khan, chief health officer Sheikh Salahuddin, chief waste management officer Md Zahid Hossain.
