Detained photographer Shahidul Alam has been taken from office of the Detective Branch (DB) of police to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital around 9:00am on Wednesday, said general manager of Drik gallery ASM Rezaur Rahman.

The High Court on Tuesday ordered to send him to hospital for treatment and diagnosis following a writ filed by Shahidul’s partner Rehnuma Ahmed. Shahidul Alam was booked and taken in remand under Information and Technology Act (ICT).

Members of the DB picked up Shahidul Alam from his house on Sunday night. He was, later, shown arrested under ICT Act due to ‘instigate’ students movement demanding safe roads and on charge of spreading ‘rumours’.

Shahidul’s wife filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of Shahidul’s arrest and torture and seeking permission from the court to send him to hospital

Shahidul Alam was picked up by plainclothes DB men from his Dhanmondi residence on Sunday night right after his interview with an international news agency on ongoing students protest following the death of their two fellow students in a road accident in Dhaka on 29 July.
