Khaleda bail extended until 13 Aug

The High Court on Wednesday extended the bail of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case until 13 August.

An HC bench comprising justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order following a petition filed by Khaleda’s lawyers, reports UNB.

The HC also adjourned the hearing of the case until Thursday.

On 31 July, the High Court extended the bail of the chief of country’s principal opposition party, BNP, until 8 August in the graft case while on 25 July the court extended her bail until 31 July in the case.

On 5 July, a petition was filed with the High Court seeking an extension of its earlier order granting a four-month interim bail to Khaleda Zia in the graft case.

On February 8, Dhaka Special Court-5 convicted the former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

She was then sent to the abandoned central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the capital.
