Ex-MP detained over DU teacher Aftab Ahmed killing

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested former MP Md Mafiqul Hasan Tripti, a former BNP lawmaker, from the city's Banani area on Wednesday over the killing of former National University vice-chancellor Aftab Ahmed in 2006, reports UNB.

Special super (SS) of CID's Dhaka city (south) Md Enamul Kabir told UNB that a special CID team arrested him from his NAM Bhaban residence around 5:30pm.

On 23 September 2006, three unidentified youths stormed the residence of Aftab Ahmed, also a Dhaka University teacher, at Fuller Road on the campus and shot him, leaving him injured.

He was taken to Combined Military Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on 26 September.

A case had been filed with Shahbagh police station which was later transferred to detective branch (DB) police. The CID has been dealing with the case since 2009.

Aftab Ahmed served as the NU VC from July 2003 to July 2005.
