BGB seizes 75kg gold, detains 3

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained three persons along with about 75 kilograms of gold, worth about Tk 367.70 million, in separate drives from Narikelbariya and Shikri areas of Sharsha upazila in Jashore.

The BGB’s 49 battalion seized the gold during their drives from 10:00pm on Thursday to 8:00am on Friday.

BGB detained three people along with a total of 636 gold bars, weighing 74.759 kilograms of gold, while being smuggled to India, said BGB 49 Battalion commander lieutenant colonel Mohammad Ariful Haque.

The detainees are Md Mahiuddin, a resident of Shikarpur village of the upazila, and Safura Khatun and Israfil of Benapole upazila.

Ariful Haque said the detainees are associates of gold smugglers.
