5 killed in separate road crashes

At least five people were killed and several others injured in road accidents in Sylhet and Cumilla, reports UNB. 

In Sylhet, at least three people were killed and four others severely injured in a collision involving three vehicles on Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Gobindaganj in Chhatak upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Chhatak police station officer-in-charge Atikur Rahman said a Sunamganj bound bus collided head-on with two auto-rickshaws near Sada Bridge in the area around 3:00pm, leaving the trio dead on the spot and four others severely injured.

Later, the injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital, added the OC.

In Cumilla, two workers of a factory were killed and two others severely injured as a covered van hit a roadside shop at Nuritala in Chandina upazila on Saturday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

Iliatganj highway police outpost's SI Manirul Islam said some workers of Ayesha Jute Mills of the area took shelter inside a roadside shop as rain started while they were going to their workplace.

The accident took place when the covered van hit the shop after its driver lost control over the steering around 12 pm, leaving the duo dead on the spot and the other two others severely injured.

Later, locals took the injured to Chandina Health Complex.

Police seized the covered van from the spot.
