Bus hits home minister’s car, this time

A car carrying the home minister Asaduzzaman Khan was hit by a bus in front of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of the capital on Friday night.

The bus of New Vision Paribahan hit home minister Asaduzzaman’s car in front of NICVD around 8:45pm when he was coming out of the institute after visiting a patient, Sher-e Bangla Nagar police station sub-inspector Yadul said.

The minister was unhurt but the rear side of the vehicle got damaged, reports UNB.

A case has been filed in this connection with the police station. Traffic inspector Ekhlasur Rahman filed the case against the bus driver Ibrahim Khalil Emon and his assistant Manik around 11:45pm, said the SI.

Police later detained the driver and his assistant.

The incident took place at a time when the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been observing a special traffic week to raise awareness and bring discipline in road transport following a countrywide student movement for safe road.

The demonstrating students press home for a nine-point demand, mainly for road safety. Students began the movement after, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College, were killed in a road accident on airport road in the capital on 29 July.

The movement became stronger after the shipping minister Shajahan Khan smilingly compared the road accident with an accident in India, which killed 33 people, while talking to newsmen within one hour of the crash.

Meanwhile, police have taken legal actions against 113,423 vehicles, realised fines of around Tk 37.8 million and seized 3,544 vehicles in separate drives against traffic rule violators across the country in six days since the Traffic Week began on 5 August.
