90pc people flout traffic rules

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner, Asaduzzaman Mia, on Saturday said enforcing traffic laws was difficult as the 90 per cent of the peoplein the country violate traffic rules . 

The DMP commissioner was speaking on the traffic week at a press conference in the DMP media centre.
Terming DMP’s traffic week a success, he also declared the traffic week extended till 14 August.
He said, during the traffic week, police lodged a total of 52,417 cases against different vehicles, took action against 11,405 drivers and removed 557 unfit vehicles.
Revenue of Taka 30 million had been collected in fines during the, he added.
He said the student demonstration last week demanding safe roads was a wakeup call for the traffic police.
Asaduzzaman also regretted the failure to identify the persons who assaulted journalists during the demonstration and said the law enforcers are working towards identifying them and taking action accordingly.
