Chhatra Dal leader killed in factional clash

A local unit leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was killed and two activists injured in a factional clash in Kumarpara area of Sylhet city on Saturday night.

The deceased is Foyjur Rahman Raju, 26, son of a certain Fazar Ali of Shahpur village in Rajnagar upazila of Moulvibazar district and former vice-secretary for publicity of JCD city unit. He was a student of Sylhet Law College, reports UNB.

Leaders and activists of JCD started to gather in front of the residence of newly elected Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury around 7:00pm.

Two groups of the student wing of the BNP locked into a clash in front of the house, said sub-inspector Faruk Ahmed, in-charge of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College police camp.

The clash left three including Raju injured. Among the injured, Raju succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 11:00pm, said the SI.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected mayor Ariful visited the hospital and expressed his condolence to Raju’s family.
