Shahidul Alam sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent internationally-renowned photographer Shahidul Alam to jail before completion of his seven-day remand, in a case filed under the ICT Act, reports UNB.

Investigation officer of the case, Arman Ali, inspector of Detective Branch (DB), produced Shahidul before the court and asked to keep Shahidul in jail until the investigation of the case ends.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court judge Fahad Bin Amin passed the order.

Earlier on 6 August, Shahidul Alam was placed on a seven-day remand for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the High Court on 7 August, asked the authorities concerned to send Shahidul Alam to BSMMU for his treatment and also asked the relevant authorities to form a medical board to examine his health and submit a report on his health condition on 9 August (Thursday).

In compliance with the order, the BSMMU authorities placed a report before it on 9 August (Thursday).

Later on 9 August, High Court asked the authorities concerned to examine as per section 2 (6) of the Torture and Custodial Death Prevention Act, 2013 whether Shahidul Alam, was tortured physically and mentally.

Detectives detained Shahidul Alam from his Dhanmondi residence on the night of 5 August, for interrogation over his Facebook posts on the student protests demanding road safety.

Later, police filed a case against him with Ramna police station.
