35 sued over Sylhet JCD leader’s death

A case has been filed accusing 35 people in connection with the killing of a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader in an attack near the house of elected Sylhet City Corporation mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury in Kumarpara area on 11 August.

Dabir Ali, the uncle of victim Foyzul Haque Raju, 32, a former assistant publication secretary of Sylhet city JCD, filed the case with Kotwali police station on Monday night accusing 23 named people including former organising secretary of Sylhet city JCD Absur Rokib Chowdhury and 12 unnamed, said Mohammd Abdul Wahab Miah, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

Police also arrested an accused Alfu Miah in this connection, he added.

Earlier on 11 August, Raju came under attack in front of the house of Ariful during a rally marking his victory in the Sylhet City Corporation Election and died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Two other leaders also injured in the attack.
