The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday caught an engineer of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) red-handed while he was taking bribe from a businessman in Narayanganj, reports UNB.

The arrested bribe-taker is a deputy assistant engineer of LGED, Ehtashamul Haque.

ACC conducted the drive based on a specific complaint by Mozammel Haque, a contractor of the LGRD office at Sonargaon Upazilla under Narayanganj district, ACC public relation officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee told UNB.

A team led by Nasimi Anwar, one of the directors of ACC, arrested Ehtashamul Haque with bribe money of Tk 50,000 from his workplace around 3:00pm.

ACC officials said that the LGED engineer took the bribe for favouring the contractor to get a tender.

Filing of a case against the official was underway.
