BNP is ‘conspiring’ to create a 1/11 situation, according to Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader. He claimed that a section of the media was assisting BNP to this end.

Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, was speaking to journalists while visiting the Mohakhali bus terminal today, Friday, to observe the situation of passengers going home for Eid-ul Azha and also whether bus fare was being hiked.

Referring to the previous military-backed caretaker government, Obaidul Quader said, “The actors of ‘1/11’ along with a section of the media are now assisting BNP.” He said the people were happy with the prime minister Sheikh for the development in the country and would vote in favour of the pro-liberation spirit once again. He said BNP and its collaborators were a threat to the spirit of the liberation war.

As to whether BNP would be a part of the election-time government, the minister said, “BNP has no representation in parliament. When it had the chance, it did not come. BNP at the time was even offered the home ministry, but it failed to take that up.” He said they had no plans of calling BNP once again.

He also rejected the possibility of taking anyone from BNP as a technocrat minister.

The minister said that this time Eid travel would be comfortable as the prime minister had inaugurated 23 bridges. The problem created last Eid because of the Feni railway overpass along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway was resolved by upgrading it from four lanes to six lanes.

He said steps were being taken to prevent hikes in bus fare and a bus ticket counter in Sirajganj had even been shut down following complaints of excess ticket prices.
