Two sixth graders drown in Sherpur

Two sixth graders drowned in the river Bhogai in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Omar Faruk, 12, son of Genda Mia, and Shanto Miah, 12, son of Akhter Miah.

Faruk was a class VI student of Nakla Pilot High School while Shanto was in the same class of Muktijoddha Smrity Bidya Niketan School.

Khan Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Nakla Police Station, said Faruk and Shanto went to Tarakanda Rubber dam area around 5:00pm.

Later, they went to an island in the river for playing.

At one stage, Faruk, Shanto and another boy slipped into the river and went missing.

Hearing them scream, locals rushed in and rescued one.

After two and half hours, they recovered the bodies of Faruk and Shanto.
