2 more killed in alleged gunfight with police

Two suspected robbers were killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police in Routora area of Magura district town early Saturday.

The deceased are Sibadul Islam Siba, 43, son of a certain Shadat Mollah of Bhabonhati village in sadar upazila and Jamal Mollah, 32, son of one Nururnabi Mollah of Narasinghpur village in Bagherpara upazila of Jashore, reports UNB.

Tipped off that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robberies on Magura-Jhenaidah road, a team of police conducted a drive there around 3:00am, said Tariqul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Magura.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcement to retaliate, triggering the gunfight, he said.

“At one stage, the two were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot,” Tariqul added.

The additional SP said Siba was wanted in eight cases related to robbery and Nururnabi in five. Their bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
