BNP gets permission to hold founding anniv rally

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday said it got permission from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to hold a rally in the city to mark the party’s 40th founding anniversary on 1 September.

Party publicity affairs secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne said they got the verbal permission to hold the rally in front of their Naya Paltan central office, reports UNB.

The BNP leader said DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia gave them the permission as he and two other party leaders met him at his office around 1:30pm.

On 14 August, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced to hold the rally either at Suhrawardy Udyan or in front of their Naya Paltan central office on the occasion of their party’s 40th founding anniversary.

On 1 September 1978, late president Ziaur Rahman founded the party wooing leaders and activists from different parties with a 19-point programme to build as a ‘self-reliant Bangladesh’.
