A man was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Dharmapur in the suburb of Feni town on Tuesday night, reports UNB. Quoting RAB, the news agency adds that the deceased is Mohammad Sumon alias Lal Sumon, a listed criminal and son of Manu Mia of Kathaltala village in the upazila.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-7 conducted a drive at Kabiraj Dighi around 9:00pm, said squadron leader Shafayat Jamil, commanding officer of RAB-7.

Sensing the presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on RAB members, prompting them to take action.

At one stage, the RAB members arrested Sumon with bullet injuries and took to Feni Sadar Hosptial where the physicians declared him dead.

Nazmul Hasan, a resident medical officer of Feni Sadar Hospital said the RAB member brought Sumon there dead.

Rashed Khan Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Feni Model police station, said Sumon was wanted in 14 cases including those of drugs.

Three firearms and 4,000 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

The law enforcement’s versions of the events, however, could not be verified independently as no versions of the incidents were available immediately either from any witness or from the victims’ families.
