Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Wednesday said the next general election is likely to be held on 27 December.

He said, a small cabinet would be formed in place of existing one but the parliament would not be dissolved.

Muhith said this while holding a meeting with Sylhet City Corporation’s newly elected mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and councillors at Sylhet circuit house.

Replying to a query, Muhith said the polls-time cabinet would be headed by prime minister Sheikh Hasina and there would be no representatives of BNP or civil society in it

He said the parliament would not be dissolved as the current parliament will remain valid till 25 January 2019.
