The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday demanded inclusion of the party chairperson’s personal physicians in the medical board formed by the government for the treatment of Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.

“Our leader’s (Khaleda’s) personal physicians were not kept in the medical board formed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). It has exposed government’s vindictive attitude,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office, he said their party sent the names of Khaleda’s five personal physicians as per the verbal message of the jail authorities.

The BNP leader alleged that the government did not include them in the medical team as it is ‘unwilling’ to ensure proper treatment of Khaleda Zia. “I, behalf of our party, like to say our leader’s personal physicians must be included in the medical team,” he said.

Referring to their senior leaders’ meeting with the home minister on 9 September, Rizvi said Asaduzzaman Khan assured the BNP team of keeping their chairperson’s personal physicians in the medical team.

He also alleged that the medical board was formed with physicians who are ‘loyal to the ruling party’.

Earlier on Thursday, the government formed a five-member medical board for examining Khaleda’s health condition and ensuring her treatment.

Meanwhile, at a discussion, BNP vice-chairman AZM Zahid Hossain alleged that Khaleda’s medical team was formed dropping seniors of BSMMU at the behest at the government.

“Senior doctors who could provide good suggestion about Khaleda’s treatment were not kept in the medical board. It was formed with those doctors who are loyal to the government and will work as per its directives,” he said.

Zahid, also the general secretary of Doctors Association of Bangladesh, came up with the allegation at a programme arranged by Bangladesh Youth Form at the National Press Club.
