Syed Ashraf is ill, takes 90-day leave from JS

Public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam, MP, who is now undergoing treatment in Bangkok, has taken a 90-day leave from the Jatiya Sangsad, reports UNB.

Chief whip ASM Feroz on behalf of Syed Ashraful Islam placed an application before speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury to grant his leave for the next 90 sittings of parliament from Tuesday (18 September).

The speaker read out the application before the house after Maghrib recess. Later, the house granted his leave by a voice vote.

According to the application, Syed Ashraful Islam, an MP elected from Kishoreganj-1 constituency, is now undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Medicine Unit of Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok.

He underwent a surgeryon Monday last and he needs to stay there for many more days to receive treatment.

Shirin said there were instances of granting leave for some MPs in different parliaments avoiding controversy.
