An accused drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Katakhali Haidrabad in Munshiganj municipality early Thursday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Saiful Islam alias Baba Arif, 37, son of Julhash Bepari of sadar upazila, also an accused in 12 drug related cases.

Police arrested Arif along with 110 pieces of Yaba tablets from Durgabari village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night, said Munshiganj police station officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain.

Later, a team of police along with Arif conducted a drive in the area to recover arms around 2:30am.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals staying in the area opened fire to police, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

At one stage, Arif caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Two policemen-assistant sub-inspectors Aslam and Kamal----were injured during the gunfight.

Police recovered a pistol, two bullets, one sharp weapon and an iron rod from the spot.

The law enforcement’s version of the event was, however, not verified independently and no version of the incident was available immediately either from any witnesses or from any members of the victim’s family.
