The government has imposed a 22-day ban on fishing, carrying, hoarding, trading and transporting of all fish, with particular emphasis on Hilsha and Jatka (Hilshafry) from October midnight to 29 October in the sweet waters of Chandpur belt, reports UNB.

"The restricted area will cover around 100 kilometres starting from Char Alexander of Lakshmipur district up to Shatnol under Matlab North Upazila of Chandpur district," district fisheries officer HM Mohibullah told UNB on Saturday.

For violation of the recently imposed restriction on catching, selling and transporting fishes, the offenders will be jailed for one or two years or fined, he added.

A total of 46,000 fishermen including 27,800 registered fishermen are there in the district, he said.
