A man who received serious injury as his ex-wife and mother-in-law tried to slaughter him at Gohira of Raujan upazila two days ago, succumbed to his injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday night, reports UNB.

The deceased is Qatar expatriate Fakhrul Islam, 28, son of Tajul Islam of Mobarakkhil area in the upazila.

CMCH police outpost in-charge Jahirul Islam said that Fakhrul's wife Umme Habiba Maya developed an extra-marital affair in absence of her husband. There had been a dispute between two families over the issue.

Later, Umme Habiba divorced her husband.

Habiba and her mother Rasheda Akhter called Fakhrul to their house on Thursday evening after his recent return from abroad and at one stage tried to slit his throat.

To ensure his death, they also took the body to their roof and ignite fire through a gas cylinder in a bid to stage a suicidal incident.

Later, being rescued by the neighbours, Fakhrul was admitted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.

Police arrested Habiba and her mother in this connection on Thursday night.

A murder case was filed with Raujan police station, said sub-inspector of the police station.
