Zafrullah gets anticipatory bail in Savar cases

The High Court on Sunday granted anticipatory bail to Gonoshasthya Kendra founder ZafrullahChowdhury in two cases filed in Savar on charges of grabbing a land and demanding extortion.

An HC bench of justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and justice Mohiuddin Shamim passed the order when Zafrullah appeared before the court and sought bail.

Senior lawyer advocate Zainul Abedin, said the High Court granted bail to Zafarullah till submission of police report in the cases.

Earlier on 19 October, Hasan Imam, a resident of Savar, filed the cases against Zafrullah Chowdhury on charges of occupying a land and demanding extortion with Ashulia police station.

Mohammad Ali, a resident of Harirampur upazila in Manikganj, filed another case accusing Zafrullah and three others with the same police station allegedly for attempting to grab a piece of land and demanding extortion on 15 October.

The accused allegedly had been trying to occupy a 4.24-acare land, owned by Mohammad Ali, at Pathalia union. They threatened and put pressure on Mohammad Ali in a bid to grab the land, and demanded Tk 10 million from him as extortion.
