A former Union Parishad member was stabbed to death by some unidentified miscreants at Sonamukhi village in Shariatpur's Sadar Upazila, apparently over an existing feud, reports UNB.
The deceased was Khaleque Pankhadar, 55, son of Gani Pankhadar of the same village and former member of Rudrakor Union Parishad.
Quoting locals, police said some miscreants swooped on Khaleque around 10:00am on Thursday, while he was on his way to a court appearance. They stabbed Khaleque indiscriminately with local sharp weapons and quickly fled the scene, leaving him severely injured.
Taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, the on-duty physician declared Khaleque dead.
His body has been kept at the hospital's morgue for autopsy, said officer-in-charge of Palong model police station Md Moniruzzaman.
"We will start looking into the matter once a case is filed over the killing," the OC added, a baffling excuse for inaction that the police avail far too often.
