7 of a family killed in short circuit fire

Seven members of a family were killed in a fire originated from a short circuit at a residence in Aramnagar of Joypurhat town on Wednesday night.

An injured is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit.

Joypurhat police superintendent Md Rashidul Hassan confirmed that the deceased are members of the same family.

The police super said Abdul Mumin, 37, his mother Momena Begum, 52, his elder daughter Brishti Begum, 14, died on Wednesday night.

The injured were first taken to Joypurhat District Adhunik Hospital.

As their health condition deteriorated, the injured were sent to DMCH burn unit.

Mumin’s wife Porina Begum, 32, and his twin daughters – Hashi and Khushi and 12-month-old son Taimul Islam died on the way to the DMCH.

Mumin’s father Dulal Hossain, 58, is now undergoing treatment at the DMCH burn unit.

Injured Dulal said the fire broke out after they went to bed around 9:00pm on Wednesday. As the main gate of the residence was under lock and key, neighbours later rescued them breaking the windows.

Joypurhat fire service warehouse inspector Sirajul Islam said the fire might have been caused by short circuit.

The Joypurhat hospital’s physician Saiful Islam said five people were taken to the hospital’s emergency unit at night. As much as 70-75 per cent of their bodies were burned.
