The High Court on Sunday rejected an appeal filed by former housing and public works minister Mirza Abbas to cancel a corruption case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission for amassing wealth beyond known sources of income, reports UNB.

A HC bench of justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order.

Md Khurshid Alam stood for ACC while deputy attorney general AKN Amin Uddin Manik for the state. The appeal was filed on 4 October.

On 16 August, 2007, the ACC filed the case with Ramna police station against the couple saying that BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas and his wife Afroza Abbas amassed wealth worth over Tk 59.7 million beyond known sources of income.

Besides, the ACC also found assets worth around Tk 3.3 million that were not mentioned in the wealth statements of the two submitted to the ACC, according to the case statement.
