Let us move forward with Unity: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has called upon her party men to go ahead with the Unity Process ahead of the 11th parliamentary election.

"Our chairperson has asked us to move ahead with the peolpe's unity which has recently been forged," BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir quoted her chair as saying.

Fakhrul demanded that Khaleda, a former prime minister, be sent to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) again as she is still very sick, reports UNB.

He made the demand after a meeting with Khaleda at the abandoned central jail on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka.

"Madam (Khaleda) is very sick and she is not getting the proper treatment. The authorities ignored the doctors' advice to keep her at the PG Hospital (BSMMU). She was suddenly shifted back to jail, which is inhuman," Fakhrul said.

He further said, "We strongly demand the authorities ensure her better treatment again at the PG hospital immediately."

The BNP leader also demanded her release from jail.

Earlier, Fakhrul along with party standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar and Mirza Abbas entered the jail around 2:40 pm and met Khaleda.

On 8 February, a special court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Khaleda, a 75-year-old former prime minister, was taken to the old central jail minutes after the verdict had been delivered.

On 6 October, she was admitted to the BSMMU after prison authorities shifted her there from jail for better treatment in response to a court order.

She was taken back to the jail on 8 November, after a month of treatment at the hospital.
