Election commissioner Kabita Khanam said it is not possible in anywhere in the world to hold elections 100 per cent free and fair.

“So elections in Bangladesh won’t be 100 per cent free and fair. We would try to conduct an acceptable election,” said Kabita Khanam while addressing the assistant returning officers of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions at the election commission secretariat in the city’s Agargaon area on Friday.

EC secretary Helaluddin Ahmed also spoke at the programme.

The election commission decided to hold the 11th parliamentary election on 30 December.

“We don’t want to hold an election for which we have to be accountable to the people. We want to hold the election which will be out of controversy,” the election commissioner said.

Kabita asked the officials to help the election commission in conducting an acceptable election by discharging their electoral duties with sincerity and showing good manner to all.

Earlier on 7 August, chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda said that he cannot guarantee that there will be no irregularities in the general elections.
