A Dhaka court on Monday placed dainik71.com acting editor Sheikh Riaz Muhammad Noor on a three-day remand in a case filed under the Digital Security Act, reports UNB.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Shahiduzzaman Shahid passed the order after Shawkat Ali, sub-inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested the acting editor of the news portal from the city's Segunbagicha area on Monday on charges of posting seditious, false and baseless news on social media.

In the remand prayer, the IO said Riaz needed to be taken on police remand to quiz him and find out other accused who were involved with the incident.

Riaz's counsel Md Kabiruzzaman filed a bail petition before the court for his client in the case.

After hearing, the court rejected Noor's bail petition and granted three days' remand for interrogation.

Rapid Action Battalion filed the case with Ramna police station under Digital Security Act on Sunday.
