A group of miscreants, wearing badge of Awami League candidate for Dhaka-16 (Mirpur) constituency, snatched a Prothom Alo correspondent’s mobile phone and deleted photos taken while they were beating a man.

The group of 10-15 people chased and attacked the man in front of MMBC Model Institute around 8:00am.

The Prothom Alo correspondent took a number of snaps while the group was beating the man.

The leader of the gang approached to the correspondent and asked him to delete the photos.

Asked why they beat the man, the leader, who introduced himself as Anis Talukder, claimed the man borrowed money from him.

A few minutes later, however, Anis said that the man was a BNP activist and tortured them during the BNP rule.
He also threatened the correspondent not to write anything about the incident saying, “Listen, there will be no metro rail or Padma bridge if the Awami League doesn’t come to power again.”
