Alleging massive vote rigging in Sunday's national elections, the opposition BNP on Monday rejected the polls results and demanded a fresh ballot, reports UNB.

"The election was held creating an unprecedented war-like situation creating panic and establishing a reign of terror through state-sponsored terrorism by using all the state machinery -- from the judiciary to the administration and law enforcement agencies," said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

"We can call it a vote robbery, the way election was held through state-sponsored terrorism. We're completely rejecting this election and its results. We demand the election be cancelled and a fresh election be held immediately under a non-party government," he said.

The BNP leader came up with their party's formal reaction to the national election after a meeting of the party's standing committee members at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.

The BNP standing committee members sat for the emergency meeting at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.

The meeting started at 4pm to analyse the election results and finalise the party's future course of action.

As his attention was drawn to the CEC's remarks rejecting the Oikya Front's demand for fresh polls, Fakhrul said, "The CEC is the most biased person and his activities have already become questionable. The way he talks, he only reflects the government's version."

The opposition will carry out a legal fight alongside a movement to realise their demand for fresh election. They will announce their action programmes in due time, the senior BNP leader said.

In Sunday's parliamentary elections, the BNP bagged only five seats while its alliance partner Gano Forum managed to win two.
