Police on Thursday night arrested another man from Chattogram in connection with the gang-rape of a mother of four in Noakhali's Subarnachar upazila after Sunday’s general elections.

The arrestee is Jasim Uddin, police said.

With this latest detention, a total of six people have so far been arrested in connection with the gang-rape.

Police detained Jasim Uddin from Chattogram for his alleged involvement in the incident, Char Jabbar police station officer-in-charge Nizam Uddin told Prothom Alo.

According to the victim’s husband, local Awami League leader Ruhul Amin and others stormed their house in the small hours on Monday and tied up all the family members except his wife.

They took the woman outside the house at gunpoint where they raped her in turns, the victim’s husband said.

After the rape, they also threatened the victim not to disclose the matter to anyone, saying they would kill her if otherwise, he said.

With the help of neighbours, the victim was taken to the hospital.

On Thursday, law enforcement arrested two more persons, including the AL leader Ruhul Amin, the alleged mastermind of the gang-rape.
