CEC, cabinet secretary served legal notice

A legal notice has been served on the chief election commissioner (CEC) and the cabinet secretary seeking cancellation of appointments of the MPs to the 11th parliament as it was formed without dissolving the previous one (the 10th parliament).

Lawyer Taherul Islam Tawhid, on the behalf of lawyer Mahbub Uddin Khokon, secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association, sent the notice by post on Tuesday.

The notice demanded cancellation of appointments of the MPs to the 11th parliament, which was made on 3 January while the gazette was published on 1 January, by 9:30am of 13 January.

Otherwise, necessary measures would be taken according to Article 102 of the constitution, it added.

The 10th parliamentary election was held on 5 January whereas the MPs took oath on 9 January and the cabinet was formed on 29 January.

The five-year tenure of the 10th parliament would have been completed on 28 January and then the 11th parliamentary election would be held, according to the constitution.
