Man killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with rivals in Chengutia of Abhaynagar upazila in Jashore early Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Shahidul Islam, 38, son of certain Nur Islam of Buikara village in the upazila.

Acting on information that two groups of drug traders were exchanging gunfire in the area, a team of police went there around 4:00am and recovered the bullet hit body of Shahidul, said Sheikh Goni Mia, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station.

Police also recovered a pipe gun, two bullets and 120 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.

Shahidul was wanted in several cases, said the OC.

The law enforcement’s versions of the events were, however, not verified independently as no version of the incident was available immediately either from any witness or from the victim’s family.
