The prime accused in a case filed for the death of a garment worker following 'gang-rape' was found dead in Khagan area of Savar on Thursday night, reports UNB.

Police recovered the bullet-hit body of Ripon, 39, line chief of Yagi Bangladesh Garments Ltd where the rape victim used to work, from an empty field inside Amin Model Town with a placard tying around his neck which reads: "I'm the mastermind of the rape case".

Officer-in-charge of Savar model police station Abdul Awal said locals spotted the body at night and informed them.

Later, they recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for autopsy, he said.

The OC also said they were yet to find any clue as to who killed him and dumped the body in the field.

Meanwhile, Ripon's cousin Shafiqul Islam claimed that he went out of their house 5-6 days ago after getting a phone call but did not return home.

Ripon and his four associates intercepted the female RMG worker while she was returning home from her workplace at Beron in Ashulia on 5 January last.

They took her to a field behind their factory and raped her. A case was filed in connection with the incident the following day.

However, the girl died at their residence at Jamgora on 7 January.

Later, a murder case was filed with Ashulia police station where Ripon was made prime accused, said its OC (Investigation) Javed Masud.
