13 workers killed as truck overturns, crashes into dorm

At least 13 workers were killed and two injured after a coal-laden truck overturned and crashed into a dormitory of a brick kiln labourers in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla around 5:30 in the morning.

The deceased are the labourers of Kazi and Co. brick kiln in Narayanpur village of Ghoilpasha union in theupazila. 

The deceased are Ranjir Chandra Roy, 30, Morsalin, 18, son of Nur Alam, Masum, 18, Tarun Chandra Roy, 25, Mohammad Selim, 28, Biplob, 19, Manoranjan Roy, 19, Shankar Chandra Roy, 22, Dipu Chandra Roy, 19, Amit Chandra Roy, 20, Minal Chandra Roy, 21, Bikash Chandra Roy, 28 and Kanak Chandra Roy, 34, son of Dhalu Roy of Jaldhaka upazila in Nilphamari district.

Police and local people said 12 of the labourers died on the spot as the truck overturned and crashed into the dormitory while another died on his way to hospital.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital, the police added.

Chauddagram police station officer-in-charge Abdullah Al Mahfuz said the coal-laden truck crashed into the dormitory of brick kiln while 15 labourers were sleeping there.

According to Prothom Alo data, as many as 6,109 people have so far been killed in the last 700 days.
