A family feud, triggered by dispute over household chores, led to the murder of a three-year-old girl at Bhadughar village in Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria, police said on Monday, reports UNB.

The suspect, identified as Helal Mia, a resident of the village, told police that he had killed his niece to take revenge on his sister-in-law.

Police have arrested Helal and his accomplice Rubel. The murder details were disclosed at a media briefing at the police superintendent's office in the morning.

Halima Aktar, the victim and daughter of Helal's brother Amir Ali, went missing on Saturday morning. Her body was found at an under-construction building in Bhuiyapara area of Bhadughar village around 12:30pm.

During investigation, police learnt that Helal had taken out his niece.

He was detained for questioning on Sunday. He confessed to killing the child to take revenge against the victim's mother Khadiza Begum.

Quoting Helal, police said the dispute started a month ago over domestic chores. Helal often stalked his sister-in-law and gave her indecent proposals. He was censured when Khadiza told others about his advances.

That is when he started planning to kill the child to teach Khadiza a lesson.

Two weeks ago, he had planned to drown Halima. As part of the plot, he selected the under-construction building, where he worked as a mason, for killing the child.

Khadiza filed a case at Brahmanbaria model police station accusing Helal and Rubel of killing her daughter.
