BNP on Sunday alleged that its chairperson Khaleda Zia's health condition has deteriorated as the government is not ensuring proper treatment to her in jail, reports UNB.

"Though Khaleda Zia's health condition continues to deteriorate, she is not given treatment. She's suffering from serious pains in her eyes while she's unable to walk with her swollen legs. Her previous illness has turned acute now," said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan central office, he further said, "Amid such a physical illness, she is being produced frequently before the court set up in a small room inside the jail, showing inhuman attitude. In fact, Khaleda Zia has been subjected to repression and harassment in the name of producing her before the court."

The BNP leader alleged that the government is trying to annihilate Khaleda gradually by depriving her of treatment.

He urged the prime minister to release Khaleda Zia from jail as what he said her desire to keep Khaleda Zia away from the national election has already fulfilled.

Rizvi alleged that police obstructed their party's protest programmes at different parts of the country on Saturday, and arrested some BNP leaders and activists.

He condemned the police action, and demanded the immediate release of their party's arrested leaders and activists.

Replying to a question, the BNP leader said their party still did not finalise its decision on filing case with the High Court's election tribunal in connection with the 30 December election irregularities.
