5 BCL, Juba League men killed in road crash

Five leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Juba League were killed in a collision between a truck and a car on Rupsha bridge bypass road at Harintala in Khulna city on Sunday, reports UNB.

The deceased were Mahbub Hasan Babu, organising secretary, Walid Mahmud Utsob, deputy secretary, Saju Ahmed, assistant secretary, activist Aminul Islam of Gopalganj district unit BCL and Juba League district unit vice-president Sadequl Alam, from Gopalganj district town.

The Mongla-bound cement-laden truck collided with the Gopalganj-bound car around 10:30pm when the truck was giving side to a mentally challenged man, leaving the five people dead on the spot, said Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Labanchara police station.

Among the victims, Sadequl was driving the car. The five friends came to visit Khulna, said the OC adding that the bodies were sent to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Police seized the truck but the driver and his assistant fled away.
