A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Thursday seeking compensation for the families of the victims who were killed in firing by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members during a clash with 'cattle smugglers' at Bahrampur village in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon, reports UNB.

Tapan Kumar Saha, a lawyer of the Supreme Court, filed the petition in the form of Public Interest Litigation.

He said the petition will be placed before the HC bench of justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and justice KM Kamrul Kader next week for hearing.

Besides, the court issued a rule seeking explanation as to why killing of three people and injuring at least 20 others through firing should not be declared illegal.

It also seeks explanation as to why steps will not be taken against the BGB members and directives wound not be given to give compensation to the families of the victims.

The home secretary, the director general of BGB, Thakurgaon BGB Battalion 50 commander lieutenant colonel Tuhin Masud were made respondents to the rule.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, three people were killed and at least 16 others injured after BGB members opened fire during, what the paramilitary force claimed, a clash with cattle smugglers at Bahrampur village in Haripurupazila.
