8-yr old girl 'raped' by neighbour

An eight-year old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the capital’s Agargaon on Saturday. 

Police detained Abdur Razzaq, 50, on charges of raping the minor girl. 

Assistant sub-inspector Sohel of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station told Prothom Alo that the victim’s parents, roadside vendors of rice and curry, were not present at their residence when the rape took place.

"The girl came back home from school around 11:00am. Taking advantage of her parents' absence, Razzaq called the girl into his residence and raped her," he said.

The child at one stage managed to come out of Razzaq's residence. As the locals observed blood on her body, they caught Razzaq and informed police about the rape, the police officer added. 

The victim is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
