3 killed over land disputes

At least three people were killed and many others injured in clashes over land disputes in two districts, reports UNB.

In Cox's Bazar, at least two people were killed and eight others injured by bullet in a clash between two groups over a disputed land at Bilhachua in Pekua upazila in the district on Saturday.

The deceased are Nezam Uddin, son of late Abdur Rahman and Azizul Haque of Bilhachua area.

Additional police superintendent Iqbal Hossain said they recovered two bodies from the spot after the clash.

Besides, police recovered 7 firearms and detained eight people from the spot.

In Barishal, a man was killed and several others injured in a clash over land related dispute at Morichbunia village in Banaripara upazila on Friday night.

The deceased is Ashish Baroi, 46, son of Amal Baroi.

Khalilur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Banaripara police station, said that there had been a long standing dispute between Ashish and Sobha Ranjan Chowdhury of the village over land.

As a sequel to the enmity, the two sides locked into an altercation which triggered a fierce clash.

Ashish received stab injuries during the clash and died on the spot.

Besides, several people of both groups, including Ashish's wife Snighda, were also injured.

The injured were sent to Sher-e Bangla Medical College and Hospital.

Police arrested two people in connection with the clash.
