The High Court on Monday ordered the authorities concerned to withdraw the officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar Police Station Kamrul Islam for his alleged involvement in 50,000 yaba recovery incident, reports UNB.

The court also ordered the investigation officer of the case field over the incident to submit report within one month.

The HC-bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice M Mostafizur Rahman passed the order.

On 7 March 2018, a team of Detective Branch of police recovered 50,000 yaba tablets and Tk 500,000 from the house of assistant sub-inspector Mohammad Suhrawardy. A case was filed in this connection.

Later, ASI Suhrawardy and police constable Asaduzzaman gave confessional statement before court. In their statement, they said that following the order of the OC they had released a drug trader keeping his yaba and money.

On 24 February, the matter came to the notice to the HC bench during a hearing on a bail plea of detained constable Asaduzzaman.

The court sought explanation why the OC was not made accused in the case and asked Mehedi Maksud, investigation officer of the case of Criminal Investigation Department, to appear before the court.

On 26 February, Mehedi Maksud appeared before the court and informed the court that additional police superintendent Nazim Uddin Azad was appointed as the IO.

Later, the court asked him to appear before the court today (4 March).

The court also rejected the bail petition of Asaduzzaman.
