A preventive team of Dhaka Customs House seized 48 gold bars and detained two China nationals at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Sources at the airport said the customs house had a tip-off that the two China citizens would bring a gold consignment to Bangladesh.

Based on the information, the customs team started monitoring them -- Chen Jifa, 29, and Ding Shousheng, 35 -- soon after they came out of the flight of Air Arabian, which landed at the airport around 9:00am from Sharjah, said deputy commissioner (customs preventive) Othello Chowdhury.

When the two Chinese nationals were about to leave the customs hall through the green channel, they were challenged and the customs officials recovered 48 gold bars, weighing around 5.56 kg, which were kept hidden inside two solar home systems, around 11:30am, he said.

They detained Chen Jifa and Ding Shousheng and handed them over to police.
