College student among 5 killed in road crash

Five people, including a college student, were killed and six others injured after a bus hit a human hauler on Barishal-Banaripara road in Tetultala area of Barishal city on Friday, reports UNB.

Four of the deceased are Shila Haldar, 24, a Masters student at Barishal BM College, Manik Shikdar, 40, auto-rickshaw driver Khokon, 35 and Sohel, 25.

Yunus Ali, station officer at Barishal fire service and civil defence, said the accident took place in the area when the Barishal-bound 'Durjoy Paribahan' bus from Swarupkathi hit a human hauler, leaving Shila dead on the spot and 10 others injured.

Police and fire service men took the injured to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital where physicians declared four others dead.

Abdur Rahman Mukul, officer-in-charge of Barishal metropolitan airport police station, said traffic movement on the highway remained suspended for half an hour due to the road accident.
