A suspected drug trader was killed in a 'gunfight' with detectives at Bhabanipur intersection in Gazipur city early Monday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Jahangir Alam.

Ruhul Amin, an assistant commissioner of Gazipur Detective Branch, said that tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive.

According to the police, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, a group of drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, the DB team rescued the bullet-hit body of a drug trader and took him to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The police also claimed that they recovered a pistol, yaba tablets and hemp from the spot.

Prothom Alo, however, could not verify police version of the incident independently as no version was available immediately either from any witness or from any member of the victim’s family.
