Firefighter Sohel Rana buried in Kishoregan

Firefighter Sohel Rana, who succumbed at a Singapore hospital to his injuries he suffered during the deadly Banani FR Tower fire, was laid to eternal rest in Kishoreganj on Tuesday, reports news agency UNB.

He was buried at his family graveyard at Keruala village in Itna upazila following his second namaz-e-janaza at 5:45pm.

Murshed Jaman, officer-in-charge of Itna police station, said Sohel was awarded a guard of honour by a firefighting team before his janaza.

Deputy commissioner Md Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury, Superintendent of Police Mashrukur Rahman Khaleque, Fire service’s Mymensingh divisional deputy director Md Dulal Mia and Itna Upazila Parishad chairman Chowdhury Quamrul Hasan, among others, attended the janaza.

The first janaza of Sohel was held at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters in the capital around 11:00am.

Director General brigadier general Sazzad Hossain of the fire service received his body in the presence of his family members and top fire service officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday after it arrived from Singapore.

Sohel Rana, a staff of Kurmitola Fire Service and Civil Defence, sustained serious injuries on 28 March while rescuing people from FR Tower where a deadly fire claimed 26 lives and left over 70 injured.
