Ambassadors of Croatia and Venezuela, and High Commissioners of Guyana, Namibia, Nigeria and Zambia to Bangladesh separately presented their credentials to president M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban this afternoon.

The envoys are: Petar Ljubicic of Croatia, Augusto Montiel of Venezuela, David Goldwin Pollard of Guyana, Pius Dunaiski of Namibia, retired Maj Gen Chris Sunday Eze  of Nigeria and Judith Kasashi K Kangoma-Kapijimpanga of Zambia.

Welcoming the envoys, President Hamid said Bangladesh’s foreign policy puts importance to bilateral and friendly relations with all, president’s press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin told BSS after the ceremony.

The president also said that Bangladesh always gives priority to the expansion of the bilateral relations in the field of trade and investment.

He also hopes that the bilateral relations with these countries will further be expanded during their respective assignments in Bangladesh.

Terming Bangladesh a country of huge potentials, Abdul Hamid stressed on availing all possibilities in the interest of their respective countries and Bangladesh to boost businesses and trade ties.

“Bangladesh has experienced manpower including physicians, engineers and teachers. We are always ready to provide those skilled forces on demand of the friendly country,” he said.

The President also urged the envoys to become a development partner and enhance people-to-people contact among the countries at bilateral level. The envoys told Abdul Hamid that they would do everything necessary to increase bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in the days to come.

Praising the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, they sought cooperation of authorities concerned in discharging their duties.

The envoys lauded the government’s initiatives taken for rehabilitating over one million Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh territory from their Rakhine state homeland of Myanmar.

The president also sought cooperation from international community to ensure safe return of the displaced Rohingyas to their homeland with dignity and honour.

Secretaries concerned to the president and high officials of the Foreign Ministry were present.

Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoys guards of honour as part of the ceremony.
