HC asks EC to register Ganosamhati Anodolon

The High Court on Thursday ordered the election commission (EC) to register Ganosamhati Anodolon as political party within 30 days, reports UNB.

A bench of justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order after hearing a rule seeking explanation as to why Ganosamhati Andolon will not be registered as a political party.

On 11 November last year, the rule was issued following a writ petition filed by the party’s convener Zonayed Saki.

Lawyer Jotirmoy Barua stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Ekramul Haque Tutul represented the state.

On 31 December, 2017, Ganosamhati Andolon applied to the EC for being registered as a political party which was rejected by the EC.

On 23 September,2018 a legal notice was served on the EC seeking review of their decision but they failed to respond to the notice.
